SAVING OUR DEMOCRACY

"A CALL FOR ACTION AND UNITY"

GOAL ONE: Acknowledge our polarization and vow to bridge that polarization. We cannot ignore the threat of polarization to our democracy and our future as a nation. We must understand the major sources of our polarization. In Platform One we identify three major areas of polarization: Cultural Wars, Political Wars and Racial Wars.

GOAL TWO: Define and embrace a new proclamation of the goals and aspirations of our nation. Such a proclamation was put forth many years ago and became known as A City Upon a Hill. National leaders have called upon this proclamation on numerous occasions throughout our history stating "where we are, and whence we are headed." But it is a proclamation that rings shallow when our city upon a hill is mired in deep polarization and injustices and our Democracy is being questioned and challenged. We must put our own house in order before we can pronounce that we are a light shining to all. In Platform Two we propose a new national proclamation entitled the Idea of America.

GOAL THREE: Develop a "Bridging Model" for crossing polarizing divides and addressing our common good. Only when we bridge our differences and vow to work for our common good will our democracy survive. In Platform Three we develop a model to bridge our differences peacefully and propose three steps to save our democracy.
